Autumn Landscape Roll
A Divine Panorama

by Harold Stewart

[ Synopsis and Introduction ]

Dedication

For
Dr. Heinz Karrer of Switzerland,
Generous Patron and Enduring Friend
with
true gratitude.

I dedicate this work to the glory of the Buddha's Pure Land. May it repay the kindness of patron and preceptor. May it mitigate the sufferings of the lost and damned. May all who read it or hear it read find their hearts turned towards the Dharma; may they finally be reborn in the Realm of Uttermost Bliss; and by their common intercession may they requite me for the arduousness of my task.

- Wu Chêng-ên, in the colophon to his romance Hsi-yu chi (Pilgrimage to the West).
