'Jeweled-Crown Maitreya Bodhisattva' (Miroku Bosatsu). 7th century. Koryuji, Kyoto
Zuiken Inagaki (1885 - 1981) earned his living as a school teacher, while gaining a deep understanding of the Dharma through his extensive studies. He was ordained as a priest in 1945 and published several books, including a seven volume commentary on the Kyo Gyo Shin Sho. In combining a secular career with the task of giving profound attention to the call of Amida's Vow, he was a model of Shinshu discipleship.
This essay was first broadcast on NHK Television. Here is an English translation in which the traditional Jodo Shinshu understanding of shinjin is proclaimed.
This long - and almost epic - description of essential Jodo Shinshu ideas calls upon us to respond to the call of Amida Buddha.
The Essence of the Larger Sutra
The Dai Muyryo-ju Kyo (Larger Sutra on Infinite Life) is the main part of the primary Jodo Shinshu sacred texts. This essay explains the importance and significance of this sutra.
